Exceptional cold winter increases the prices of PVA

The prices of polyvinilic alcool (PVA) have increased of the 16% during the first three months of year 2021.

The increase was due to the huge production growth of VAM (vinyl acetate monomer), the main component of polyvinyl alcool (PVA).

To this trend have contributed three factors: the shortage of natural gas due to the polar cold in the United States, principal seat of the VAM, the congestion of Panama Canal towards the end of 2020, with a subsequent increase of the transport costs and the scarce availability of PVA in consequence to the high demand of water soluble products.

For this reason we do not see any trend inversion.
