North American machine market gets off to a bad start

Deliveries to the North American market for major plastics processing technologies suffered a setback in the first quarter of the year, according to the Committee on Equipment Statistics (CES) of the Plastics Industry Association (Plastics). Even taking seasonality into account, deliveries fell by -8.5%, with the highest peaks for the main types, injection moulding machines and extruders, which together totalled $261.9 million, down -24.2% compared to the same period last year. Looking at the first quarter of 2023, single-screw extruders were down -23.4% in value, twin-screw was down -17% and injection moulding machines were down -24.9%. In addition, in the first three months, exports from the US of plastics machinery and equipment decreased by -7.4%, while imports increased by +7% compared to the previous quarter.
