The bioplastic industry is growing steadily, with a turnover increased by 26% compared to 2017.
This is what emerges from the data of the fifth annual Assobioplastiche report. Production grew by 28% in 2018, reaching 88,500 tons processed; employees reach 2,550 unit (more 4%) and companies reach 252 (more 4%).
It is – based on the Assobioplastiche observatory estimates – altogether a system that would already be worth over a billion euros with the simple respect of the exempt laws.
The economic system of computable bioplastics is a complex system: not only is it extremely connected with the collection of organic waste and with industrial composting, but it is closely linked with agriculture, both for the use of renewable energy and biomass for the production of basic and intermediate chemicals, as well as the use of compost produced by the plants.
